Public Art: All The Essentially Essential

Raffles Place Park, entrance of Raffles Place MRT station

Aspirations being the theme of this award-winning piece of work by Singaporean artist Tan Wee Lit, the stainless steel work depicts objects needed for a fulfilling work-life balance. Designed to look like a giant unassembled toy-kit, they individual items are to be twisted free. Parts of the piece include bicycle wheels, a gym bag, a baby stroller, a briefcase and rollerblades. A space is left empty to emphasise the human component which is essential to our overall happiness.

This piece was originally created as a site-specific work for East Coast Park. Described by the author as a "tongue-in-cheek take on the ever-efficient Singaporean packing for a day trip to the park".
