Public Art: Sampan, Chinese Procession and Indian Settlers

Bounded by Amoy Street, Telok Ayer Street, Boon Tat Street, Telok Ayer Green Park is home to the Sampan, Chinese Procession and Indian Settlers sculpture. Created by Lim Leong Seng in collaboration with Singapore Tourism Board, this sculpture recreates historical events and people.

Depicting an application of modern art theories and techniques onto Singapore subject matters, the Sampan, Chinese Procession and Indian Settlers sculpture tells the story of the early immigrants in Singapore. The Sampan represents the landing site of the early Immigrants, the Chinese Procession represents the celebratory procession of Chinese Festivals in the past, and the Indian Settlers of Telok Ayer represents the trades of the early Indian Immigrants.
